POST A MESSAGE

Growing ever bolder in their naked grab for power they are leaving scorched earth behind those who disagree with them. This is why Dick Gephardt, Joe Lieberman, and Zell Miller no longer find themselves included in the modern Democratic Party. What is left over for the Democrats are wildly anti-American, anti-God, and anti-biblical leftists who are now bragging about their use of brute force to crush the voices of those who disagree with them.

Perhaps that's why this week in one of the boldest moves yet by a sitting liberal, Democrat Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez proclaimed, "The real purpose of SB 1437 is to outlaw traditional perspectives on marriage and family in the state school system."

He continued, "The way you correct a wrong (perspective) is by outlawing.'Cause if you don't outlaw it, then people's biases tend to take over and dominate the perspective and the point of view."

Nunez's solution to the people he disagrees with is to outlaw their ability to disagree with him.

Fed tries to rescue market

It would also lighten the burden on people with credit-card debt and adjustable-rate mortgages.

Still, its effect on Wall Street wasn't overwhelmingly positive. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 14.69, or 1.11 percent, to 1,310.50, while the Nasdaq composite index lost 47.75, or 2.04 percent, to 2,292.27.

The fact stocks didn't continue their steep plunge -- the Dow fell 277 points last Tuesday and 307 on Thursday -- was a positive sign, but economists and analysts said a full recovery wasn't likely in the near term.

Frank Brooks, 62, who lives in the Harrods Creek area, said the market fluctuations of the past several weeks have been harrowing. A retired consultant, Brooks said he and his wife have about 60 percent of their savings in stocks, with the rest in certificates of deposit and other sources.

No Bull: 'Durham' simply stinks

I laughed at Robert Wuhl's tips on wedding gifts during the conference on the mound.

I think I was being pretty generous with the "lollygag" speech, so there might have only been two funny lines in the whole movie. And since Crash later told a different opposing batter that a curveball was coming, the movie basically ruined the first line by using the same gag twice. So, that leave's "Candlesticks always make a nice gift" as the movie's only funny remark. Now, consider those are the six words on which Robert Wuhl built his career. That scene might have directly caused the creation of "ARLI$$." One more reason to hate the movie.

Keep in mind, I found this movie in the "comedy" section of my local video store. It's supposed to be funny! It's not. That makes it a bad movie right there.

October 2005 Archives

Last night I saw Sheryl Crow at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC. She sounded good -- classic Sheryl. Her new album, Wildflower, isn't as rockin' as her older stuff -- it's more laid-back, mellow, chilled-out tunes. The audience reflected the maturity of the album. It was definitely a 30-and-up set. There were a lot of families, which was interesting. Linda Wells, the editor-in-chief of Allure, sat right near me with her husband and her two sons. (My sister commented that both boys could use a haircut, but I liked their shaggy 'dos.) Another celeb sighting: comedian Gilbert Godfried, who sat directly behind me. He was wearing earplugs at a Sheryl Crow concert. I don't know exactly what he was expecting, but I guarantee that earplugs weren't necessary. Besides, with all the screaming he does during his stand-up you'd think he'd have trouble hearing in the first place.

TBank goes international

Thanachart Bank (TBank) says it has adjusted its business position from a niche bank to an international one, targeting more corporate loans following its partnership with Canada's Scotiabank.

The medium-sized bank has been concentrating on auto loans for more than 20 years, and auto hire-purchase loans make up 78.41 per cent of its overalll loan portfolio.

Last year, Scotiabank became TBank's strategic partner by acquiring 24.99 per cent of Thanachart Capital, which owns 74.92 per cent of the bank.

TBank now plans to "go international" with support from its new shareholder, Scotiabank, which will give it an advantage over others in the foreign banking business.

With this strategy, TBank will generate better returns, said Thanachart Capital president and CEO Suphadej Poonpipat.

Music sales fall despite digital growth

Technology and social change always affects business. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. It sucks when you're on the wrong end, but that's the way it is. In the end, it is usually best for most.

If you can use that argument to justify outsourcing, you can certainly use it to justify the effect of the entertainment business. Posted 24/01/08 at 6:50 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
