Washington Post Spreads Clinton's Angry Dose of 'Hey Diddle Diddle'

Baker's story is far too polite to correct Clinton's angry dose of "Hey Diddle Diddle." He couldn't note Clinton quickly left office and scored a $12 million book advance and began making tens of millions of dollars from making speeches around the world. Baker's story is also too polite to recall for readers that Ken Starr indicted – and convicted of multiple felonies – Jim and Susan McDougal, who were business partners with Bill and Hillary Clinton in the failed Whitewater Development real-estate venture. (Overall, Starr's team convicted or drew guilty pleas from 14 people in the Clinton scandals.) This Post story did noting to "set the record straight." It merely let Clinton characterize it in the way most to his liking.

Baker's story reported Clinton is trying to "win the referendum" on how people see the Clinton years.

Bragging Rights At Stake In Broncos-Chiefs Tilt

The Chiefs' Herm Edwards is 2-3 against both Shanahan and the Broncos as a head coach, including 1-2 since arriving in K.C.WHEN THE CHIEFS HAVE THE BALLKansas City has fielded one of the NFL's best rushing attacks over the past few years, but the team has failed to establish a strong run game this season even when Johnson's been healthy. The Chiefs average a meager 85.6 yards per week on the ground (29th overall), although Smith (252 rushing yards, 2 TD) has breathed some life into the offense since taking over as the starter. The fifth-round draft choice ran over the Raiders for 150 yards and two scores two weeks ago and followed up with 83 yards on 21 carries against a tough San Diego defense last Sunday. A shaky offensive line has been partly to blame for the Chiefs' rushing struggles and could be without starting tackles Damion McIntosh (knee) and Chris Terry (personal) this week.

The “R” Word and an Economic Stimulus Plan

Home sales have plummeted. Lots of real-estate agents are experiencing their own recession. In southeastern Michigan the auto industry is doing so poorly that if feels more like a depression. Nationwide, not only are there record home foreclosures, but delinquency rates on auto loans and credit card debt are increasing at a worrisome rate. Retail sales are down modestly year over year. If this isn't a recession, it sure seems like one.So what is a politician to do when confronted by these disquieting economic conditions in January of an election year? Ride to the rescue, of course. Thus, on Thursday, January 17, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke appeared before a congressional committee to appeal for an "economic stimulus" package. The very next day, President Bush and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson echoed Bernanke's remarks.

Even if Michael is convicted, he did not kill, rob or hurt anyone. He is not selling drugs or shooting people. I don't think that it is right to shoot, beat, shock or hurt an animal just for the amusemen,t but I am tired of the country being run by special interest groups such as PETA. An animal is not a human, and we should stop treating them as if they are more important than people. The punishment should fit the crime.
He should be forced to take classes on how to treat animals, pay at least a $2 million fine to be shared among animal shelters here in Virginia, and finally some type of community service involving speaking to kids about why it is wrong to force dogs or any animals to fight for their amusement. - James, Suffolk

A birthday one century in the making

Brown, one of the many officials who took turns sitting next to her in the living room of the senior center.

"I can't propose to you, because I'm married," said Brown.

"That's OK," she told Brown, who is 48 years old, after a brief pause. "You're too old for me."

Djokovic ends Federer's streak of 10 consecutive Grand Slam finals

Djokovic broke him to pull ahead at 3-1 in the second set. He finished off the game by getting to a drop shot on the dead run and flicking a backhand past Federer that kissed the line. Djokovic roared and raised his fist, then repeatedly pounded his chest.

He broke again to pull ahead at 5-1. Serving for the set, Djokovic looked a little tight, and Federer took advantage to break. When he held to make it 5-3, the divided crowd erupted into dueling chants of "Let's go Roger, let's go" and "No-vak, No-vak."

Federer forced deuce as Djokovic served again for the set.

Known for his tendency to bounce the ball up to two dozen times before serving, the Serbian got a time delay warning. Instead of being shaken, Djokovic was fired up. He ripped a forehand winner and glared up at chair umpire Pascal Maria of France, then blasted an ace and stared defiantly at Maria again.

The conservatives at The Corner sense general election vulnerability in Hillary's it-makes-sense-but-I-don't-support-it answer on Gov. Spitzer's plan to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. (Video here.) She loses her calm and gets mildly imperious. ... Hillary does quite consistently and unflipfloppily say she supports "comprehensive immigration reform." But a) even if no Democrat will call her on that (as Dodd called her on the drivers' license issue) a Republican might. Unfortunately for Republicans, only one of their top five contenders (Thompson) is well-positioned as a clear opponent of "comprehensive" reform's mass legalization plan.
